SWITCH PROJECT
St Albans Police Station.
Helping people to reduce drug use and related crime

Leeds Drug Intervention Programme. Rapid Access to Low Threshold Prescribing (Tier 2)- West Yorkshire Police -

Foundation and goals:

The primary goal of Seagrave Healthcare is to increase access to drug treatment services.

1. For people that are addicted to drugs it is essential that appropriate treatment and care is available. In many parts of the country the demand for treatment far outstretches availability, leading to lengthy waiting lists. Despite the highest levels of motivation from a drug user requesting treatment, individual circumstances can change dramatically during the long waiting times to access treatment. The ‘window of opportunity’ for treatment is often missed, increasing the level of harm and cost to the individual drug misusers and the community.

2. A further aim of our service is to increase the options in treatment for substance misuse.

If a variety of treatment options are available to treat drug problems the likelihood of effective outcomes may be increased. Limited treatment options may also impact on self referral to services as people in need realise that the service provision in their area is unlikely to help them.

3. The third aim of our service is the improvement of knowledge and understanding of drug dependency amongst staff, patients and the community.

To promote the change that is necessary to improve treatment outcomes, it is essential that knowledge and understanding of drug problems is improved.

To meet the aforementioned goals a number of objectives are necessary.
